Uzbekistan is Central Asia’s most populous nation and a strategic hub controlling critical transport corridors
connecting China, Russia, and the Middle East. The country possesses substantial natural gas reserves, cotton production capacity, and gold resources supporting economic significance. Uzbekistan’s geographic position at the heart of Central Asia and along historic Silk Road routes enhances its geopolitical importance.

The economy relies heavily on natural gas exports, cotton production, and agriculture, with underdeveloped
manufacturing and services sectors. The government has pursued economic reform and diversification, opening sectors previously controlled by state enterprises. Tourism development, particularly targeting Silk Road heritage sites in Samarkand and Bukhara, represents emerging opportunities. The country has invested in infrastructure modernization and technology sector development.

Uzbekistan’s global positioning strengthens through energy supply relationships and strategic location along Belt and Road Initiative corridors. The country maintains relationships with multiple global powers, including Russia, China, and Western nations, pursuing pragmatic balancing diplomacy. Governance concerns, limited political pluralism, weak institutions, and restricted civil liberties affect international business confidence. Sustainable development requires accelerating institutional reforms, diversifying economic sectors, and improving governance transparency to attract increased investment.
